Course Overview
Assessment has been described by Dylan Wiliam as the bridge between teaching and learning, yet it is an area that continues to challenge many of us within education as the ‘science’ of best practice continues to evolve. Many schools continue to assess in isolated activity areas rather than taking a more holistic perspective. In secondary schools in England the temptation is to extrapolate down from a ‘flight path’ towards GCSE PE even though we know less than 20% of students follow that pathway and in primary schools the temptation is to assess very little other than how many students meet the end of key stage 2 requirements for swimming.
This course is free to PE Scholar members and is intended to provide a clear rationale for thinking differently about assessment whilst also providing some initial ideas to help you improve the way you assess. It should take no more than an hour to complete and is separated into 5 short chapters as follows:
- Introduction
- Insight
- Research
- Practice
- Summary and Feedback
